Imagine for a moment staying in one of the best boutique hotels in Launceston

Enjoying a rejuvenating pampering session at its world-class spa, a delectable gourmet meal that champions local produce at its on-site restaurant, and a couple of delicious cocktails under the stars on your own private balcony.

Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Well, this is exactly what I did recently!

Launceston is one of my favorite cities to visit in Australia. I love its quaint architecture, lush parklands, and historic landmarks. It also has some terrific restaurants and a unique charm about it that I haven’t found elsewhere on my travels.

Part of this charm is due to its luxury Launceston accommodation, which ranks among some of the best hotels and holiday places I have ever stayed at.

Where to Stay in Launceston, Tasmania

If you are looking for boutique accommodation in Launceston Tasmania there are several different neighbours you can choose to stay in, each one of which has its set of drawcards.

White cars parked in front of the old buildings on a street in Launceston

Launceston CBD

For those who want to be close to everything, choosing Launceston CBD accommodation is probably your best bet as this is where most of the main attractions are or can be easily accessed.

For the creme de la creme of boutique hotels in Launceston’s CBD, book a stay at The Florance.

East Launceston

Another good location for first-time visitors is East Launceston. I love this area because it has some very cool Victorian-style houses and some fantastic coffee shops. It also has some of the best hotels in Launceston in my opinion.

North Launceston

Families should consider Trevallyn and Riverside which lies to the north of the CBD. It is a quieter, residential area that has lots of fabulous viewpoints as well as some lovely nature trails you’ll love to explore with the kids.

West Launceston

Should you want good nightlife, West Launceston has some nice bars, restaurants and venues for evening entertainment, whilst those on a budget should head to Invermay, where there are several, more affordable budget hotels in Launceston available.

The Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley can be a very romantic spot, so it is a particularly good option for couples who would like to stay in a Tamar Valley winery hotel and explore the top-notch wineries of this region.

Further Afield

Those who want to stay in a more remote area should make Cressy, Hagley, Relbia or Deviot their base.

The Granary would be my top pick for a boutique hotel in Launceston that sits amongst the remote landscapes of Tasmania, just south of the city.

Tasmania Travel Planning Guide

Is it safe to rent a car in Tasmania?

Absolutely, it is safe to rent a car in Tasmania. In fact, renting a car in Tasmania is the best way to see and explore the island.

You can make a very scenic lap of Tasmania in 10 days or experience an east coast Tasmania itinerary with your own rental vehicle. Plus public transportation between major tourist hubs in Tasmania is relatively limited.

Book your Tasmania Car Hire

What is the best way to book my Tasmania accommodation?

I always use booking.com for all of my accommodation worldwide, and Tasmania is no exception. I stayed in some really epic places on my adventure around the island.

For more cozy apartment-style accommodation try VRBO (better and safer than Airbnb).

Heck yes! Tasmania has some of the cleanest tap water in the world. Outside of a few small rural areas where this might not be the case, I really enjoyed drinking straight from the tap in Tasmania.

If you plan to do a lot of hiking in Tasmania, I recommend bringing my favourite self-filtering water bottle with you, just in case.

What are the best day tours in Tasmania?

Taking a day tour in and around Tasmania is a must when visiting the island.

I highly recommend (and have been on!) the Tasman Island Cruise, the gourmet Bruny Island day tour, the Tamar Valley wine tour and the Gordon River Cruise.
