Bay of Fires Accommodation FAQ

Is it worth staying at Bay of Fires?

Yes, in my opinion, it is definitely worth staying at the Bay of Fires Tasmania!

For a start, it is an insanely beautiful destination that features stunning beaches, clear turquoise waters, and fascinating rock formations. But in addition, there are plenty of activities to enjoy, such as hiking, kayaking, and surfing.

You’ll also be able to try some terrific seafood, local produce and Bay of Fires wines too.

Is it better to stay in St Helens or Binalong Bay?

Both Binalong Bay and St Helens have their merits, so try and get to both.

However, if you only have time to visit one of these Tasmania Bay of Fires regions, I’d plump for St Helens if you want to have access to amenities and groceries.

That said Binalong Bay definitely has better views and is closer to the Bay of Fires Conservation Area.

How long should you spend at the Bay of Fires?

Ultimately, how long you stay at Bay of Fires Tasmania depends entirely on what you want from your visit.

If you just want a whistlestop tour of the main highlights, a couple of nights will be enough. However, if you want to relax, go on a few Bay of Fires walks or check out some wineries, 4-5 days should suffice.

Tasmania Travel Planning Guide

Is it safe to rent a car in Tasmania?

Absolutely, it is safe to rent a car in Tasmania. In fact, renting a car in Tasmania is the best way to see and explore the island.

You can make a very scenic lap of Tasmania in 10 days with your own rental vehicle. Plus public transportation between major tourist hubs in Tasmania is relatively limited.

What is the best way to book my Tasmania accommodation?

I always use booking.com for all of my accommodation worldwide, and Tasmania is no exception. I stayed in some really epic places on my adventure around the island.

For more cozy apartment-style accommodation try VRBO (better and safer than Airbnb).

Can you drink tap water in Tasmania?

Heck yes! Tasmania has some of the cleanest tap water in the world. Outside of a few small rural areas where this might not be the case, I really enjoyed drinking straight from the tap in Tasmania.

If you plan to do a lot of hiking in Tasmania, I recommend bringing my favourite self-filtering water bottle with you, just in case.

What are the best day tours in Tasmania?

Taking a day tour in and around Tasmania is a must when visiting the island.

I highly recommend (and have been on!) the Tasman Island Cruise, the gourmet Bruny Island day tour, the Tamar Valley wine tour and the Gordon River Cruise.
