Staying at Trulli Boccadoro, Ostuni: My Honest Review After a Week in the Trulli Suite
Staying at Trulli Boccadoro just outside of Puglia’s white city of Ostuni is one of the dreamiest local living experiences in this region. Read about my personal experience staying here for a week.

Finding the perfect place to stay in Puglia can feel overwhelming. When my sister and I planned our two-week road trip through Southern Italy, I knew I wanted at least part of the trip to feel utterly Puglian – olive trees, slow mornings, stone trulli houses, local wine and warm hospitality.
That’s how we found Trulli Boccadoro, a boutique countryside hotel just 15 minutes outside of Ostuni. We stayed for one full week at the end of April in the Trulli Suite, and I can confidently say this was one of the most memorable accommodations from our entire Italy trip.
From handmade tomato focaccia served fresh every morning (I still dream about it) to peaceful sunsets by the pool with Puglian wine and vegetables picked straight from the garden, this place captured everything I love about slow Italian travel.
As a full-time travel writer who reviews hotels around the world, I always promise honesty. So this review will cover exactly what to expect at Trulli Boccadoro, including location, our trulli suite, breakfast, facilities, service, who it’s best for, and whether I’d stay here again (spoiler: yes, in a heartbeat).
If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a trullo in Puglia, but still want comfort, authenticity and a great location for day trips, this guide will help you decide if Trulli Boccadoro is the one.

Where is Trulli Boccadoro Located? (And Why It’s the Perfect Base in Puglia)
Trulli Boccadoro is tucked away in the peaceful countryside just 15 minutes from Ostuni, surrounded by olive groves, stone walls and winding rural roads. It feels quiet and secluded, yet never isolated, exactly what you want from a trulli stay in Puglia.
What made the location truly perfect for us is how central it was for day trips. With a rental car, we could reach some of the most beautiful towns in Puglia within 30–60 minutes, including:
- Ostuni – 15 minutes
- Martina Franca – 25 minutes
- Locorotondo & Cisternino – 30 minutes
- Alberobello (famous for trulli) – 40 minutes
- Monopoli & Polignano a Mare (coastal towns) – 45–60 minutes
- Lecce & Matera are also possible as longer full-day excursions
We loved being able to explore a new town each day, then return to peace and countryside silence in the evening.
Parking at the property was spacious and safe, which made it ideal for travellers like us who rented a car in Puglia. If you’re planning a Puglia road trip, this location strikes the perfect balance between convenience and relaxation.

First Impressions & Atmosphere
From the moment we drove up the long gravel road lined with olive trees, Trulli Boccadoro felt like a peaceful escape. The property is small, intimate and surrounded by countryside. The kind of place where mornings are slow, birds are the only alarm clock, and sunsets paint the stone trulli golden.
We were greeted warmly by the host, who immediately made us feel at home. There was no stiff hotel formality, just genuine hospitality, helpful tips for day trips, and a quick tour of the property.
What I loved most was the atmosphere. It felt authentic, relaxed and quiet, without feeling isolated. The trulli buildings are beautifully restored, with white stone walls, conical roofs, gardens, a small pool area and sun loungers spaced out for privacy.
Even when other guests were around, it never felt crowded or noisy.

Our Trulli Suite: Cozy, Quiet and Uniquely Puglian
We stayed in the “Trulli Suite,” and it was exactly what I hoped a traditional trullo stay would feel like, full of charm, but still comfortable and well-equipped for a week-long stay.
The stone walls and conical ceiling kept the room naturally cool, and although it felt rustic, nothing felt dated.

Inside the suite, there was a small kitchenette perfect for making breakfast or simple dinners using fresh produce from the garden. The living area was cozy, with a small seating space, dining table, and thoughtful touches like local ceramics and soft lighting.

The bedroom was quiet and peaceful, with a comfortable mattress, good linens and blackout shutters that made sleep easy. The bathroom was modern and clean, with good water pressure and fluffy towels, something I always appreciate in countryside accommodations.
What stood out the most was the calm and silence. No traffic, no noise, just olive trees, soft breeze and distant birdsong. It felt private, romantic and very Puglian, without the crowds of Alberobello or busy coastal towns. This stay genuinely made Puglia worth visiting.
Breakfast at Trulli Boccadoro & The Tomato Focaccia of my Dreams
Breakfast at Trulli Boccadoro is the kind of experience that makes you wake up early in excitement. Every morning, we were greeted with a beautiful spread of homemade and local dishes, served either indoors or outside in the garden, depending on the weather.
We were often greeted by local nonnas coming by and dropping off dishes for the daily breakfast. I mean, come on, how authentic is that!

But the star of the show? The freshly baked tomato focaccia. Soft, warm, slightly oily in the best possible way, topped with sweet cherry tomatoes and olive oil from their own trees. My sister and I devoured it every single morning, and I swear I’ve thought about it at least once a week since. It was simple, traditional, and absolutely unforgettable.

Alongside the focaccia, breakfast included:
- Freshly baked cakes or pastries (often still warm)
- Local cheeses and cured meats
- Fruit from the garden
- Yogurt with homemade jams
- Proper Italian espresso or cappuccino

It didn’t feel like a typical hotel buffet. It felt homemade, seasonal, and deeply Puglian, like staying with a family who happens to be incredible in the kitchen.
Cooking Dinner with Garden Vegetables & Wine by the Pool
One of my favourite memories from our stay at Trulli Boccadoro wasn’t from a restaurant or a day trip; it was from a quiet evening on the property.

Guests are welcome to pick seasonal vegetables and herbs from the on-site garden, and one afternoon we gathered fennel, greens and fresh herbs. Back in our suite’s kitchenette, we cooked a simple dinner of grilled vegetables tossed with olive oil (made from the estate), and a big tossed salad with the greens and herbs.

We poured ourselves a glass of white Puglian wine, wandered out to the poolside loungers, and ate dinner as the sun set over the olive groves. It was peaceful, personal, and honestly better than most restaurant meals. Not because it was fancy, but because it felt deeply connected to the land we were staying on.
This little moment of slow travel, barefoot by the pool, dinner on our laps, soft golden light, perfectly captured why Puglia is so special.
Facilities & Amenities at Trulli Boccadoro
Even though Trulli Boccadoro feels like a countryside escape, it still offers everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
✔ Swimming Pool & Relaxation Areas
The pool area is beautiful. Surrounded by olive trees, stone pathways, and sun loungers spaced far enough apart for privacy. It’s not a large resort-style pool, but it never felt crowded. Perfect for a morning dip or a glass of wine at sunset.

✔ Herb & Vegetable Garden
Guests can pick fresh produce from the garden depending on the season (zucchini flowers, tomatoes, herbs, greens), which made cooking in our kitchenette such a special experience.
✔ Parking (Perfect for Road Trips)
There’s spacious free parking on-site, which is a big bonus in Puglia, where many towns have limited or restricted parking zones.

✔ Quiet & Peaceful Setting
No traffic noise, no nightlife nearby. Just olive groves, birds and breeze. If you’re looking to disconnect, this is perfection.
✔ Reliable Wi-Fi & Air Conditioning
Wi-Fi worked well in both our trullo suite and outdoor areas, and we had efficient air conditioning for afternoons when the sun was strong.
✔ Kind & Helpful Host
The host was warm, genuine and available whenever we needed recommendations, without ever feeling intrusive. She shared tips on local restaurants, parking in nearby towns and even suggested a lesser-known attraction that ended up being some of our favourites.

Who Trulli Boccadoro Is Best For (And Who It Isn’t)
Not every hotel is right for every traveller, and that’s the beauty of Trulli Boccadoro. It’s peaceful, intimate and deeply authentic, but it definitely suits certain types of travellers more than others.
Perfect For:
- Couples, sisters or friends looking for a quiet countryside stay with charm
- Slow travellers and road trippers who want a base to explore Puglia by car
- Food lovers, especially those who appreciate local produce, garden-to-table moments and dreamy breakfasts
- Authentic Italian stay seekers, people who want a trullo experience without staying in overly touristy Alberobello
- Romantic escapes, sunset by the pool, starry nights, olive grove views
Not Ideal For:
- Nightlife seekers, you’ll need to drive into Ostuni or coastal towns for bars or late-night energy
- Travellers without a car, public transport is limited in the countryside, so you really do need a rental car here
- Families wanting resort-style facilities, there’s a pool and space to relax, but this isn’t a big family resort with kids’ clubs or entertainment

Would I Stay at Trulli Boccadoro Again? Final Thoughts
Absolutely, I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. My sister and I sat by the pool and dreamed about booking another week here and bringing our family. It’s the perfect ‘local living’ experience in Italy.
Trulli Boccadoro is the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left. It never felt like a hotel, more like being a welcomed guest on a peaceful countryside estate.
The combination of authentic trulli architecture, homemade breakfasts (that focaccia!), garden dinners, friendly hosting, and a perfect location for day trips made it one of the best stays of my entire Puglia trip.
It’s also an incredible alternative to staying in busy, touristy Alberobello. Here, you get the magic of trulli, but with privacy, quiet, olive trees and starry skies instead of tour buses and crowds.
If you’re planning a road trip through Puglia and want somewhere authentic yet comfortable, peaceful yet well-located, I couldn’t recommend Trulli Boccadoro more.
And if you’re a boutique hotel, trulli stay, masseria or unique property in Italy looking to be featured, I’d love to partner and share more hidden gems like this with my travel audience.
