How to Get to Milos Island

Milos is easily accessed by plane or ferry.

Do note, that because Milos and most Cycladic islands can experience some very strong winds, ferry crossings and plane routes can be cancelled last minute. As long as you are aware of it and build some buffer time into your schedule, you are still looking at a great holiday!

By Plane

The island boasts its own airport in Milos, making it convenient to get to and from nearby islands such as Paros, Naxos, Mykonos or Santorini and even larger mainland cities like Athens. Handily, the small but mighty Milos airport receives many direct flights.

NOTE | You’ll see a major decrease in flights during the winter and spring months of November – April.

By Air from Athens to Milos

Airlines like Aegean fly direct to Milos every day and in high season, multiple times a day. The flight takes an easy 40 minutes.

Flights from Santorini to Milos

During the summer months of May-October, Aegean airlines offer this route daily. The flight duration is 40 minutes direct.

By Ferry

Milos Beach

One of the most common ways to island-hop in the Cyclades is by fast ferry. Many companies like SeaJets will get you from A to B the fastest, while Blue Star Ferries will offer a larger variety of prices and durations.

During my month in the Cyclades, I exclusively used Ferry Hopper to find the best ferry to each island.

>> See Ferry Tickets to Milos for pricing and availability

Ferries from Athens to Milos

The best Athens port to depart from to get to Milos is Piraeus. You can reach the port of Piraeus from Athens city centre by metro in 30 minutes. This is your most direct and shortest route to Milos. The journey will take roughly 3.5 hours.

Ferries from Santorini to Milos

Ferries Santorini to Milos are plentiful. You will always find plenty of options from budget, multistop, longer-duration ferries to high speed, direct, more expensive ferries. Durations range from 2 hours to 7 hours.

How to Get Around Milos

You have plenty of great options to explore everything this beautiful island has to offer. There is so much to see in Milos, including the best Milos beaches.

NOTE | Due to the nature of some of the roads near beaches like Tsigrado and Fyriplaka, I wouldn’t rely on walking or cycling to get to all of the beautiful Milos destinations. Driving a scooter can even be a bit treacherous. Just take it slow.

Organized Day Trip

Taking an organized day trip around Milos is great for people who just don’t like to plan or want to get the most out of their Milos experience in a short amount of time. With an expert local guide to give you a more robust history and cultural insight into life on Milos, organized day trips can easily elevate your holiday.

Taking an organized day trip to all of the best beaches in Milos and other highlights could be a great option.

Car Rental Milos

Love having the comfort and convenience of a full-sized vehicle? This is the perfect option for a carefree trip to all of the Milos beaches. Driving in Milos is actually a really great experience, and will get you to tougher beaches in Milos like Firiplaka and Tsigrado which are harder to get to.

>> Check out Car Rentals in Milos for pricing and availability.

Scooter + ATV Rental Milos

If you have a properly classified license you can rent an ATV or scooter. I’d recommend renting from Apollonos Sunshine which I believe was the best ATV rental Milos could possibly have. The customer service was great and bikes and helmets were in mint condition.

TIP |  You can always negotiate the price! We got the price down to €20 paid in cash versus the €25 per day the shop quoted.

NOTE | Make sure you are comfortable driving a scooter in high crosswinds, as the Meltemi winds can be quite fierce on the island. If not, I would opt for an ATV.

Bus Around Milos

The island of Milos is graced with a really great, reliable bus system. If you’d prefer not to get behind the wheel of a rental car, ATV or scooter, this option is for you.

Check out the Milos Bus Schedule to plan the best routes. The bus system runs from almost all major and minor hubs in Milos and at times as early as 6:30 AM to almost 11 PM at night (for major routes in the summer).

Taxi Around Milos

If you’ve purchased a SIM card for your travels or have access to WiFi and are uncomfortable driving on unknown roads you can call a Milos taxi at +30 22870-22219

I’d recommend taking a taxi as a last resort. While the taxi drivers are honest, they do like to charge a premium to tourists for this service.

1. Sarakiniko Beach

You can’t talk about Milos beaches without Sarakiniko Beach coming up. And for good reason. This otherworldly lunar landscape is the sole reason for some people’s visit to Milos. Formed by volcanic rock, the undulating white scenery has so much to offer, from exploration, calm waters for swimming, deserted mine caves and even a shipwreck!

BEST FOR | Photographers

Where is Sarakiniko Beach?

Sarakiniko Beach is centrally located on the northern coastline of Milos Island. Its location makes it a great Milos beach to visit amongst a day of exploration to nearby attractions like Papafragas Beach and Caves, Mandrakia and Pollonia.

WHERE | Sarakiniko Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Sarakiniko Beach

Sarakiniko Beach Milos can be reached from Adamas, Pollonia and Plaka all within 15 minutes by car, ATV or scooter. The bus also runs here regularly due to the popularity of the best beach in Milos.

Best Time to Visit Sarakiniko Beach

Sarakiniko Beach is one of the best beaches in Milos because it is great to visit any time of day. And I mean any time of day.

The best time to visit Sarakiniko Milos beach is from 7 AM – 9 AM, before the tour groups and majority of day-trippers arrive, especially if you want to take photos. You can also have a great experience at Sarakiniko Milos Greece at golden hour before sunset for some spectacular light.

If your sole purpose is to swim and enjoy the chalky rock beach, nabbing a parking spot and place on the rocks by 10 AM is advisable.

It’s important to note that this Milos best beach will be very busy during the months of July and August, so visiting in shoulder seasons of late May, June, September and early October are when you will experience the best of this Milos beach. I visited in October at around 10 AM and while it was somewhat busy, you had plenty of room to explore and take photos.

What to Expect at Sarakiniko Beach

As one of the best beaches in Milos Sarakiniko can experience high levels of crowds for most of the year. Arrive early and you will find a spot in the complimentary parking lot, a 5-minute walk from the beach. Sarakiniko beach is an easy attraction to access.

To the right, you will find the shipwreck and beautiful layered volcanic landscape. There is a lot to do at Sarakiniko. To the left, you will find the small sandy beach, deserted mine tunnels, the Simba cliff and the cenote for cliff jumping when winds are low.

Swimming at Sarakiniko is unique. Where most beaches on Milos will offer sandy or pebbled beaches, rather Sarakiniko offers a small inlet with calm clear blue waters and a chalky rock surface to lay your towel out on.

Photography Tips for Sarakiniko Beach

As one of the best beaches in Milos, Sarakiniko features a distinctive landscape, ripe for photography. As the photographer’s mecca of Milos, you can visit at absolutely any time of day and experience great photo conditions.

For what you can expect at different times of the day at Milos Sarakiniko Beach, you can read my photography tips and instagrammable spots on my full Sarakiniko guide.

Things to Know Before you Go to Sarakiniko Beach

Parking can fill up early at Sarakiniko Beach. But, don’t worry too much, as one of the best beaches in Milos, many visitors come and go frequently throughout the day so parking spots will open up. If not, the worst-case scenario is parking a few minutes walk up the road.

The white chalky landscape at Sarakiniko, while unique, can also be a bit of a nuisance as it can come off on your clothes. No worries though, it comes off pretty easily, just don’t wear your designer clothes for a day at one of the best beaches Milos has on offer.

Nearby Attractions at Sarakiniko Beach

Due to Sarakiniko Beach’s central location, you can reach most other attractions within 5-10 minutes. But, notably, and close by, are the Papafragas Beach (another Milos best beach) and the picturesque seaside town of Mandrakia

2. Fyriplaka Beach

Best Beaches in Milos

The best sandy beach in Milos, in my humble opinion, Firiplaka Beach boasts a cliffside location with a beach bar, sun loungers, plenty of parking (albeit a bit hard to reach) and spectacular scenery. Due to its location on the south coast, Firiplaka allows for all-day sun enjoyment.

BEST FOR | Avid Beach Goers, Sun Lovers, Shallow Water Lovers

Where is Fyriplaka Beach?

As one of the best beaches Milos has to offer, Fyriplaka Beach features a central south location along the rocky and absolutely beautiful coastline.

WHERE | Fyriplaka Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Fyriplaka Beach

The best way to get to Fyriplaka Beach is by ATV or car. Once you get to the vicinity of the beach, you will encounter loose powdery dirt that can be dangerous for scooters. To avoid skidding on the road, rent a car or ATV in Adamas before taking the journey to the best sandy beach in Milos.

On the top of the hill, before heading down the road to the parking lots, there is a public transportation bus stop. Fyriplaka, due to its popularity as one of the best beaches in Milos, is serviced by bus. Check the Milos Bus Schedule to plan the best route.

To reach Fyriplaka beach, take the coastline road south away from Adamas before turning inland across to the beach. The drive should take roughly 20 minutes depending on your comfort level.

Best Time to Visit Firiplaka Beach

The best time of day to visit this best beach Milos is during the morning hours. Set up your towel on the sand or on a sun lounger and spend the day relaxing. You will also get a parking spot closer to the beach entrance if you arrive before 10 AM.

Due to its isolated location, there is no nightlife to speak of at Fyriplaka Milos so leaving before or during sunset is usually a good idea.

What to Expect at Firiplaka Beach

Parking at Firiplaka, one of the best beaches Milos has, is plentiful, yet not very accessible. You will find many tiers of loose powdery dirt parking lots that can take some skill to access. If this worries you, arrive early to park at the top lot and walk down instead.

During peak tourist months of May through to the end of September, Firiplaka boasts a couple of different water sports amenities

Just past the entrance to the best beach in Milos, you will find Firiplaka Boat Rentals for Milos watersports and boat rentals for planned or impromptu cruises along the picturesque coastline. Further down the beach, Milos Watersports rents paddleboards and SUP boards out of their little shack.

You will also have access to a Firiplaka beach bar called LOCO that rents out sets of sun loungers with an umbrella for €20 for the entire day. If you’d rather not invest in sun loungers, you can still enjoy the beach bar for drinks and light snacks.

If you reach the far end of Fyriplaka Beach Milos past the large rock island, you will find a more secluded section of beach for quieter beach hangs.

Photography Tips for Firiplaka Beach

Before walking down to the entrance of Firiplaka Beach go to the edge of the parking lot for stunning views overlooking the entire beach and bay.

You can also find some great shots of boats floating in the water right after you walk down the ramp to the beach.

As a third location, the large rock outcrop island makes for some epic framing for photos of Firiplaka Beach. Make sure to bring waterproof equipment or a GoPro to access the centre of the cave.

Due to the brightness this beach experiences, make sure to have an ND filter on your camera set up.

Nearby Attractions at Firiplaka Beach

Located just a 2-minute drive from Firiplaka is another Milos best beach, Tsigrado. This beach is located down a ladder, making it a bit difficult to access, but boy does it ever have some nice azure water.

3. Tsigrado Beach

Best Beaches Milos

Tsigrado Beach, a crystal blue alcove, surrounded by rock cliffs is one of the best beaches in Milos and for a reason. Because it’s a bit more difficult to access, Tsigrado beach offers a more exclusive experience, albeit with a lack of facilities. Just come prepared!

BEST FOR | Adventure Seekers, Seclusion Lovers

Where is Tsigrado Beach?

Backed by the central southern cliffs of Milos, Tsigrado enjoys a remote location close to another best beach Milos, Firiplaka.

WHERE | Tsigrado Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Tsigrado Beach

Rent yourself a car or ATV in Adamas, and make your way down the coastline road south away from town. Turn inland after the airport to make the rest of the 20-minute drive to Milos Tsigrado Beach.

If renting is not in the cards for you, you can also take advantage of the reliable Milos bus system that services this remote beach.

Best Time to Visit Tsigrado Beach

Like most beaches in Milos, arriving early in the morning is usually the best advice. Especially if you are there to enjoy the beach and water.

If photography is your goal, visit midday for the best light devoid of harsh shadows that are usually present in the morning and late afternoon.

What to Expect at Tsigrado Beach Milos

Usually combined with a visit to Firiplaka Beach, Tsigrado can be found by turning left up a loose dirt road just across from the bus station and before reaching the Firiplaka Beach parking lot.

There are a couple of deep holes in the road towards the parking lot so be extra cautious. Once you’ve reached the complimentary dirt parking lot, make your way down to the left towards the top of the ladder.

Yes, a makeshift ladder is the only way to access the beach (other than by boat), so if you aren’t into treacherous excursions or aren’t sure-footed, I’d recommend not adding a day at Tsigrado Beach Milos to your Greece bucket list.

You can take photos of this best beach in Milos without going down the ladder, so no worries there.

Once you’ve made it down the ladder, you will be graced with crystal azure waters and a small pleasant sandy beach. There are no facilities available to you at Tsigrado, so come prepared with snacks, water and all the equipment and clothing you could possibly need.

Photography Tips for Tsigrado Beach

Photos of Tisgrado Milos Greece can be taken from the top of the cliffs before descending the ladder to the beach.

You can also take photos from the very far point of the parking lot. If you do decide to hop on a boat cruise, this is also a great way to experience and photograph Tsigrado Beach.

Nearby Attractions at Tsigrado Beach

The stunning sandy Firiplaka Beach, one of the Milos best beaches is just a 2-minute drive away. A great addition to your day in Southern Milos as both can be visited on the same day.

4. Paliochori Beach

Best Beach Milos Greece

Paliochori Beach, or Paleochori, however you want to spell it, boasts two large sandy sections along the southern cliffs of Milos. What makes Paleochori Beach extra special, is the proximity to restaurants with beautiful views and a few great Milos hotel options.

If you are looking for a full day or even a weekend where the beach is the priority, Paleochori is the place for you.

BEST FOR |  Nearby Hotels and Amenities, Sand, Deep Water

Where is Paleochori Beach?

Centrally located along the Milos southern coastline is the remote destination and one of the best beaches in Milos, Paleochori. Due to its remoteness, Paleochori Beach Milos doesn’t experience a huge influx of day-trippers, resulting in a more quiet holiday.

WHERE | Paleochori Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Paleochori Beach

Paleochori Beach can be accessed from Adamas by driving southwest for approximately 20 minutes across the island.

You can also reach the village of Paleochori and Milos Paleochori Beach by bus about 5 times daily from Adamas during the tourist season. The bus runs between 11 AM until 6 PM.

Best Time to Visit Paleochori Beach

If you have a car, ATV or scooter, you can visit Paleochori anytime between sunrise and sunset. Arriving around 10 AM allows you to select your fave spot on the beach and set up camp for the day.

Due to the remote destination of Paleochori Beach, it’s best to plan the entire day at this best beach in Milos.

What to Expect at Paleochori Milos Beach

Because Paleochori Beach is actually located in a village, it has great access to amenities like beach bars, restaurants, and hotels.

There are a few Paliochori Beach Milos restaurants that have epic views of the beach and coastline. Expect to sit and enjoy for at least a couple of hours with a local beer in hand.

During the height of the tourist season, you also have access to private boat and cruise trips. Paddleboards and water equipment can also be rented directly on the beach.

Paleochori Beach Milos also has a large dirt parking lot right when arriving into the town for your convenience.

Photography Tips for Paleochori Beach

One of the best views of Paleochori Beach Milos Greece is from the seaside tavern Sirocco or Palegos. Pull up a chair along the railing and get camera-happy. Make sure to include the reddish rock face along the cliff as a great contrast to the blue waters of the Aegean.

Things to Know Before you Go to Paleochori Beach

The road leading down the hill towards the coastline and village of Paleochori is winding, make sure to reduce your speed.

The town of Paleochori has a couple of great accommodation options if you are looking to spend a night or two. Paleochori hotels like Artemis Deluxe Rooms and Volcanic Luxury Suites are great options with beautiful views.

5. Papafragas Beach + Caves

Best Beach Milos Greece

Papafragas Beach offers a unique seaside experience. The deep alcove, featuring a small dark sand beach, can be enjoyed on a bright sunny day during midday when the sun is at its highest. Papafragas has the added bonus of having nearby caves to explore.

BEST FOR | Explorers

Where is Papafragas Beach?

Papafragas beach Milos Island enjoys a central location along the north coastline. A 5-minute drive between the iconic Sarakiniko Beach and the idyllic seaside town of Pollonia can be explored among other Milos highlights.

WHERE | Papafragas Beach and Caves, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Papafragas Beach

Papafragas Beach Milos can be accessed easily from all over the island, especially towns like Adamas, Pollonia and Plaka. Drive northeast 12 minutes from Adamas, 5 minutes west of Pollonia and 15 minutes east of Plaka to reach this best beach in Milos.

Due to the location of Milos Papafragas Beach near the side of the main road that runs along the north coast, you can park your vehicle on the roadside and easily access the gate to the beach and caves.

You can also reach Papafragas Beach by getting dropped off by the Milos bus at the top of Pachena village. It’s only a 5-minute walk down the road heading east.

Best Time to Visit Papafragas Beach + Caves

Papafragas Beach makes the list of best beaches Milos Greece has to offer due to its uniqueness. Although Papafragas is less than ideal during cloudy, windy days (outright miserable-looking to be honest), it can be a picturesque, pleasant place to be during bright sunny days in the height of summer.

Check the weather before planning your trip to Papafragas Beach in Milos island Greece.

What to Expect at Papafragas Beach and Caves

Follow the directions on Google Maps and park your vehicle on the side of the road just above the Papafragas Beach and Caves. You will find a break in the fence to go through.

To the left, you will see the caves with a yellow warning sign that warns about dangerous cliffs. To the right, you can make your way down the hill to a small sandy beach and cenote.

There are no facilities available to you at this best beach Milos Greece has to offer. So it’s best combined with nearby attractions like Sarakiniko and Pollonia.

Photography Tips for Papafragas Beach

Check the weather before venturing out to Papafragas Beach and Caves. Unfortunately, on cloudy and windy days, there’s not much in terms of picturesque scenes here.

During bright sunny days at Papafragas Milos, the volcanic rock turns an ashy white and the blue water glows.

Best Beach Milos Greece

Things to Know Before You Go to Papafragas Beach

The Meltemi winds that are experienced throughout the Cycladic islands can turn a day at Papafragas Milos Greece into a very unpleasant experience.

Winds can reach 100 km/hr making for a dangerous day for beach-going or even being out on the cliff edge. This is the case for most beaches in Milos Greece, by the way, especially along the north coast.

Nearby Attractions at Papafragas Beach

Because Papafragas Beach is centrally located, you can enjoy Milos attractions like the lunar landscape of Sarakiniko Beach, the quaint seaside town of Pollonia, the colourful and picturesque villages of Mandrakia, Firopotamos and so much more. All in one day, if you need to!

6. Pollonia Beach Milos

Best Beach Milos Greece

Sandwiched between two ends of the town of Pollonia, this best beach in Milos is the feature of one of the biggest towns in Milos. Pollonia Beach boasts large stretches of golden sand with close proximity to amenities such as seaside restaurants, bars, cafes and quaint apartments and hotels.

BEST FOR | Close by Amenities, Large Sandy Stretch

Where is Pollonia Beach Milos?

As one of the best beaches Milos Greece has to offer, Pollonia enjoys its situation as the feature of the town of Pollonia. Located on the furthest northeastern tip of the island across from the underrated island of Kimolos, it enjoys beautiful harbour views.

WHERE | Pollonia Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Pollonia Beach

Pollonia Milos can be reached easily from the Milos ferry port in 15 minutes by car. The reliable bus system in Milos also runs multiple times a day starting at 6:30 AM in high season and ending around 7:30 PM.

Check out the Milos Bus Schedule for more info.

Best Time to Visit Pollonia Beach

Because the Milos Pollonia Beach is located in the centre of the town of Pollonia, the beach can really be visited any time of day. I’d advise you to get to the beach early if you plan on snagging a sun lounger.

Luckily, if the weather turns, there is much to do around Pollonia Milos beach besides tanning and swimming.

What to Expect at Pollonia Beach

Parking is plentiful at Pollonia, one of the best beaches in Milos Greece. You can find a large dirt parking lot just across the road to the left of the main town junction. Because this parking lot services the entire town, you may want to arrive early and stake your spot.

Pollonia restaurants are easily accessed to the right of the beach (facing the water), with different cuisine options, including sushi, traditional Greek, and even a brunch and cocktail bar.

Due to Pollonia Beach’s location on the inner harbour of the town, the beach does receive a higher amount of boat traffic. So, just keep an eye out if you are the type of person that likes to swim further out.

Some quaint apartment-style Pollonia accommodation options can be found right across the street. Or, more boutique hotels just up the hill like Milos Breeze.

Some of the best beaches in Milos island are just a hop, skip and jump away from Pollonia Beach. We are talkin’ beaches near Pollonia Milos like Sarikiniko and Papafragas within a 5-minute drive.

7. Pachena Beach Milos

Best Beach in Milos

Although Pachena wouldn’t make the list of spectacular Milos attractions it does offer a nice quiet sandy stretch for a more calm holiday experience. Located centrally on the north coast of Milos just down the hill from the town of Pachena, Pachena Beach is easily accessed for a serene day at the beach.

BEST FOR | Quiet Seaside Town Vibes

Where is Pachena Beach?

Pachena Beach is in the very small hamlet of Pachena, on the north coast of Milos. Once you make a left onto the only road in Pachena, drive towards the coast and make another left. At the bottom of the hill is Pachena Beach, one of the best Milos beaches.

WHERE | Pachena Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Pachena Beach Milos

You can reach Pachena village and Pachena Beach by car from the Adamas ferry port by driving 15 minutes northeast.

You can also reach Pachena by taking the Milos bus system which will drop you off on the main road. The walk down to the beach is an easy 5-7 minutes.

Check out the Milos bus schedule. In the height of summer, the bus passes Pachena five times a day starting at 6:45 AM and ending at 7:30 PM.

Best Time to Visit Pachena Beach

Any bright sunny day is a great day to visit Pachena Beach and Pachena Bay. Since the beach is located on the northern coastline it can experience the Meltemi winds which are severe dry winds. These winds, which can sometimes reach 100 km/hr, can really ruin your day at the beach.

Make sure to check the weather before venturing out to Pachena.

Because the beach has access to the small village of Pachena, it enjoys access to a limited amount of facilities like a small cafe up the hill

Also within Pachena’s vicinity is a plethora of boutique apartments if you are interested in staying in the area, waking up and plopping down at the beach all day.

What to Expect at Pachena Beach

A deep sweeping stretch of sand is what you can expect from Pachena Beach, one of the best beaches in Milos island. Because of its relatively unknown location, you can enjoy a quiet day reading your book at the beach. Pachena is quite the hidden gem in my mind.

During summer you can find a few sun loungers and umbrellas for rent.

8. Firopotamos Beach Milos

Known for being an idyllic seaside town perched on the rocky outcrops of the northern Milos coastline, Firopotamos Beach is a true hidden gem. Located against the cliff face, Firopotamos features a small sandy stretch of beach and beautiful clear blue water. Not to mention, views of one of the most photographed scenes on the island.

BEST FOR | Idyllic Views

Where is Firopotamos Beach?

Adjacent to the very small hamlet of Firopotamos Milos itself, you can find Firopotamos Beach hidden away on the northern coastline of the island.

WHERE | Firopotamos Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Firopotamos Beach

The closest city centre to this best beach in Milos Greece is Plaka. You can reach Firopotamos Beach and Firopotamos hamlet in a quick 10-minute drive.

Be warned, if you decide to make the trip by scooter, there are a few crazy hairpin turns in your future. Nothing to be alarmed about, just take it slow and you’ll be fine.

Firopotamos also makes a good destination on the same day as visiting nearby sights like Sarakiniko and Mandrakia, just a scenic 12-minute drive away.

Best Time to Visit Firopotamos Beach

Because of Firopotamos Beach’s location on the north coast and due to its placement behind a very tall cliff face on its east side, it is best to visit Firopotamos Greece at midday when the sun is at its highest towards the afternoon. Otherwise, some harsh shadows can ruin your beach day.

What to Expect at Firopotamos Beach

Once you’ve made it down the winding, somewhat steep road into the hamlet of Firopotamos, you will notice the beach directly on your left side.

Park your car along the road (the only place to park your car) and either explore the small village, including the idyllic harbour and church or head straight down to the beach.

As one of the best beaches of Milos that enjoys a quaint neighbouring fishing village, Firopotamos has access to a very limited amount of amenities.

If you’d like to stay in Firopotamos to experience local Milos life, Firopotamos offers a few apartment-style Firopotamos beach accommodation options.

Photography Tips for Firopotamos Beach

The entirety of this beach and fishing village is really quite the photography mecca. From Firopotamos Beach you get a great view of the idyllic harbour houses and church. Stroll into town, and close-up shots of the church are a must.

Jump back in your vehicle, and on your way back out of town, turn right and head up the hill until you reach a roadside viewpoint. From here you can get stunning photos of the entirety of the town.

Nearby Attractions at Firopotamos Beach

Luckily most things in Milos are accessible and Firopotamos is no exception, so nearby attractions are plentiful.

To the east, you have the white ashy lunar landscape of Sarakiniko and another idyllic fishing village called Mandrakia.

To the south, you can explore the artsy capital of Milos named Plaka, and venture to the seaside town of Klima

9. Klima Beach Milos

Best Beach in Milos

The quaint little seaside town of Klima is generally most popular for its colourful houses, but Klima also has a nice, albeit small, beach with lovely surroundings. If you have a week or more on Milos, I’d suggest staying in Klima and enjoying the beach at your leisure.

BEST FOR | Long Term Travelers, Proximity to Cuteness

Where is Klima Beach?

Located on the north end of the large inner harbour of Milos, just west of Adamas is the quaint little town of Klima Milos. While I would normally not consider Klima as one of the best beaches Milos Island has to offer, its proximity to the town of Klima makes it an idyllic location.

WHERE | Klima Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Klima Beach

From Adamas, you can reach Klima village Milos by driving northwest towards the capital of Plaka. Before reaching Plaka, you can make a left turn in Pera Triovasalos, and head down the hill towards Klima.

The road can be tight, blind and winding, so take your time and honk your horn if you can’t see what’s coming. The trip should take you 15-20 minutes from Adamas and 10 minutes from Plaka.

Unfortunately, because of Klima’s more difficult location to reach, the bus system does not offer this route. If you need to, you can call a Milos taxi at +30 22870-22219.

Best Time to Visit Klima Beach

The best time to visit Klima Beach is any time of day due to its south-facing location. Sun will beat down on the beach starting early in the morning and last until sunset.

To ensure you get a parking spot at the free parking lot, arrive early at Klima village Milos to experience the best beach in Milos Island.

What to Expect at Klima Beach

Free parking is located up the street from the small hamlet of Klima. You can park and make your way down, a mere 5-minute walk to the town.

Right in front, you will find the main and perhaps only (from what I gathered) Klima Milos restaurant called Astakas. Grab yourself a couple of beers for the road and layout your blanket at the small sandy beach to the left.

Unfortunately, the waters at Klima Beach aren’t the clearest, and most inviting, but a dip here can still be refreshing.

If you are up for a bit of exploring, walk to the right along the water’s edge to witness the picturesque colourful fishing houses along the coastline, and what makes Klima world famous.

Klima Milos Greece is not only scenic, but Klima Beach is also a great place to watch the sunset due to its undeterred views of the western horizon.

Nearby Attractions at Klima Beach

Up the hill from Klima, about a 10-minute drive is the artsy capital of Milos, Plaka. Peruse the quaint alleyways and climb to the top of the hill to the church for panoramic views of the entire island.

If you are up for more exploring, cruise down to the small idyllic fishing village of Firopotamos to explore the blue doored fishing homes.

10. Mytakas Beach

If you’ve visited all of the other best beaches in Milos on this list, then Mytakas Beach is for you. Situated along the northern coastline towards Pollonia, this small remote stretch of sandy beach is great for a quiet day lazing in the sun and taking a dip in the azure waters of the Aegean Sea.

The only company you’ll have is a couple of sugar-cube-style seaside homes and a quaint beach bar with serene views.

BEST FOR | Quiet Seekers with a Car

Where is Mytakas Beach?

Nestled into a remote portion of the coastline on the north side of Milos, is one of the best sandy beaches in Milos, Mytakas. It is located halfway between Sarakiniko Beach and Papafragas Beach and Caves.

Mytakas Beach Milos is a 5-minute drive from Pollonia and a 15-minute drive from Adamas ferry port.

WHERE | Mytakas Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Mytakas Beach

You can reach Mytakas Milos by car, ATV, and carefully by scooter. The bus does not have a designated stop close to this beach either, so if you decide renting a vehicle isn’t for you, the next best way to reach Mytakas Beach is by Milos taxi.

Best Time to Visit Mytakas Beach

You can visit Mytakas any time of day as long as it’s sunny with no winds. Because of its location on the north coast, it can experience severe winds (sometimes up to 100 km/hr!) all year long, and especially during the summer months.

Also, it’s important to note that amenities reduce drastically after the last week of September, so it’s ideal to visit during the months of June – September.

What to Expect at Mytakas Beach

Parking is plentiful once you make it down the dirt road to Mytakas Beach, one of the best beaches on Milos.

During the summer months, sun loungers and umbrellas will be available to rent. When I went in October, there were no more amenities set up, so please plan accordingly.

Nearby Attractions at Mytakas Beach

Mytakas Beach is neighboured by some pretty epic Milos destinations. We’re talkin’ Sarakiniko Beach and Papafragas Beach and Caves. If exploring rather than sunbathing is the plan for the day, you can easily see all three in an afternoon.

11. Papikinou Beach

Milos Beaches

Papikinou Beach is an underrated gem located just outside of downtown Adamas. Donning sandy stretches, sun loungers, umbrellas and roadside cafes, Papikinou Beach has definitely made the list of the best beaches Milos Island has to offer.

How to Get to Papikinou Beach

Due to Papikinou Beach’s close proximity to the harbour and ferry port of Adamas, it can easily be reached within a 3-minute drive or 15-20 minute walk. You can also stay across the street from Papikinou Beach in one of the quaint roadside apartments.

Best Time to Visit Papikinou Beach

Because of the peace and quiet that Papikinou Beach Milos experiences, you can head to the beach at any time you like. Plop down on a sun lounger and spend the day lounging with a book and taking periodic dips in the sea.

A small parking lot is available to you if you decide to drive to Papikinou, just across the street from the main beach area. Sun loungers and umbrellas are also available for rental and you expect great views of the inner Milos harbour and Adamas town in the distance.

One of the best restaurants in the town of Adamas is located right across the street from Papikinou Milos, called O! Hamos! Tavern, serving up a mean traditional Greek meal starting at 1 PM daily.

This little best beach in Milos Island also has some great shade from trees all along the beach if the summer sun is getting too intense. Something that a lot of the other best beaches in Milos can’t say.

12. Kleftiko Beach

Best Beaches in Milos

The idyllic scenery associated with Kleftiko Beach can only be accessed by boat, making it a remote yet once-in-a-lifetime type of adventure. The white ashy cliffs drop suddenly into the bright blue water of the Aegean, and you can experience it all from the comfort of a boat trip.

The boat trip will also bring you to the Kleftiko Caves located adjacent to the beach.

BEST FOR | Adventure Seekers, Boat Lovers

Where is Kleftiko Beach?

One of the most remote destinations in all of Milos, Kleftiko beach can be found at the most southwestern tip of Milos. As one of the best beaches Milos Island can possibly offer Kleftiko is unfortunately not accessible by road. But, due to its remoteness, the beach is usually deserted.

WHERE | Kleftiko Beach, Milos, Greece

How to Get to Kleftiko Greece

The idyllic shoreline of Kleftiko Beach and Caves can only be accessed by a Kleftiko Milos boat tour. This full day boat trip to Kleftiko, including lunch, will take you to Kleftiko Beach and Kleftiko Caves.

You will also see other lovely beaches along the coastline like Kalogries, Agathia, Triades, Ammoudaraki and the monastery of Saint John Siderianos.

Best Time to Visit Milos Kleftiko

Due to the duration of most Milos Kleftiko Beach tours, you will likely be departing early in the morning. Given this, make sure to plan your Kleftiko Beach trip during sunny calm days. Check your weather app to see what to expect and when to book for.

Do note, that Milos can get hit by severe northerly winds, so schedule accordingly. Luckily, because Kleftiko is located on the southern side of the island, these winds are not as harsh.

What to Expect at Kleftiko Milos

During your boat tour of Kleftiko, you can expect to witness some beautiful untouched coastline of Milos, plus scope some less frequented beaches like Agathia and Triades from the sea.

Once at Kleftiko, you will have lunch, snorkel in the caves (where the crew will take underwater photos of you), and visit the small stretch of sand called Kleftiko Beach.

This is truly considered the best beach in Milos Island.

Greece Travel Planning Guide

What is the best way to book my Greece accommodation?

I always use booking.com for all my accommodations worldwide, and Greece is no exception. I stayed in some really epic places on my adventure around the islands.

For more cozy apartment-style accommodation try VRBO (better and safer than Airbnb).

What are the best day tours in Greece?

Taking a day tour in Greece is a great way to experience the top attractions and learn from a knowledgeable guide.

I highly recommend these Greece tours:

What is the best ferry website in Greece?

Hands down, Ferry Hopper is the best ferry website in Greece for booking your Greek island connections. This is how I booked all my Cycladic island ferries and can recommend them.

Ferries on Ferry Hopper can connect you from Athens to any island in the Cyclades including Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros and Milos (plus more!).

You can choose from the fast ferry boats or the more economical slow ferry vessels and can compare prices on the website before booking.

Should I rent a car in Greece?

If you are flying in and out of Athens to see the top sights and don’t plan to leave the city, I don’t recommend renting a car. You can easily get around Athens by walking, taking public transportation, like the underground metro or ride-share services like Uber.

If you are heading to the Greek islands, this is where I would highly, highly (did I say highly?), rent a car in Greece. Islands like Milos, Paros and Naxos are best explored by car hire as the roads are more desolate and attractions are further apart.

I always use and recommend Discover Cars for this. Make sure to book early especially if you plan to visit Greece in the summer! Believe me, they sell out fast.

If you are going to plunk down on a beach for a week in the Greek Cyclades, I wouldn’t bother with a car rental. You can take a taxi or local transportation on the island to the beach destination of your choice (after your ferry trip from Piraeus, of course).

What is the best site to buy flights to Greece?

For finding cheap flights to and within Greece, I recommend booking through Skyscanner.

Can you drink tap water in Greece?

Yes! You can drink straight from the tap in Athens, Greece’s capital. Here the water supply is of good quality but may taste of chlorine depending on what area you are staying in.

Some Greek islands will have warnings against drinking tap water, so make sure to bring a self-filtering water bottle with you (LARQ is my fave) instead of resorting to pesky single-use plastic water bottles.
