Where to Eat & Sip in Granada, Nicaragua
1. The Garden Cafe
Best for: digital nomads, brunch lovers

The Garden Café is Granada’s most beloved all-day café, and after visiting multiple times during our stay since it was only an 8 minute walk away from our Granada hotel, it’s easy to see why.
Set inside a leafy colonial courtyard, it serves a wide mix of traveller-friendly dishes with consistently good flavours and generous portions.

We worked our way through the menu: the El Tigre breakfast bowl with chorizo, eggs, beans, tortilla strips, and pico de gallo; the croissant French toast piled with blueberries and whipped cream; beef tacos; the Mediterranean quinoa bowl; and a hearty steak sandwich.
Everything was fresh and satisfying. Their dessert case is dangerously tempting. The layered chocolate cake and passionfruit cheesecake are highlights.

The café opens early (7 a.m.), making it perfect for takeaway coffees before day trips or exploring all the top things to do in Granada, Nicaragua.
2. NM Culinary
Best for: Gourmands, couples celebrating something special, a memorable dining experience

NM Culinary Granada is the city’s premier fine-dining experience, offering an intimate tasting menu that blends Central American ingredients with modern technique.
We enjoyed their 8-course dinner, and every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully plated.
Standouts included the beef and cheese empanada, the refreshing yogurt and watermelon soup, the perfectly cooked beef tenderloin as the main course, and the playful banana popsicle with chocolate sauce and candied cashews for dessert.

The cocktail program is equally impressive: creative, refined, and worth ordering alongside the tasting menu.
This definitely was the most memorable meal of our Nicaragua trip.
3. Pita Pita
Best for: Vegetarians, flavour seekers, a hearty, well-balanced meal

Pita Pita is Granada’s go-to spot for Middle Eastern comfort food, serving plates that rival anything you’d find in Israel or the Levant.
We absolutely devoured the beef shawarma and falafel plates, each served with warm pita, creamy hummus, and a generous assortment of fresh vegetable salads. The flavours were authentic, vibrant, and deeply satisfying, which is a welcome change of pace if you’ve been eating heavier Nicaraguan dishes.

Portions are substantial without being overwhelming, and the courtyard setting makes it a relaxing place to unwind after sightseeing.
4. Restaurante El Zaguan
Best for: Steak lovers, hungry travellers, classic local dining experience

Restaurante El Zaguán is Granada’s most popular spot for Nicaraguan steak, drawing both locals and visitors for its consistently excellent grilled meats.
I ordered the Churrasco steak with chimichurri, roasted plantain, and potatoes. It was perfectly cooked, tender, and incredibly flavourful. My husband loved his Filete a la Pimienta, served with a peppercorn sauce and roasted vegetables.

Each entrée comes with a starter green salad and warm garlic bread with dips; don’t skip the celery dip, it’s unexpectedly outstanding.
Located just behind the main cathedral, it’s an ideal stop after exploring the historic centre.
5. Restaurante El Garaje
Best for: Foodies, high-quality, homemade dishes

Restaurante El Garaje is a charming, home-style lunch spot run by a lovely Canadian couple, known for serving some of the freshest, most thoughtfully made meals in Granada. Open only for lunch, the menu is small but perfectly executed.
We ordered the BBQ tandoori pita with salad and the Tamarind Chicken Sandwich with coleslaw. Both were flavourful, tender, and clearly made with care. Their unsweetened iced tea was incredibly refreshing in Granada’s heat, and we were seriously tempted by the lime cheesecake for dessert.
The setting is intimate and residential, making it feel like you’re eating in someone’s home.
6. Gaia Forest Cafe & Bistro
Best for: Veg-forward travellers, digital nomads, globally inspired flavours

Gaia Forest Café & Bistro offers a refreshing menu that caters to health-conscious travellers and those craving something lighter after Granada’s richer traditional dishes. The café blends international flavours with regional influences from across Central and South America.
My husband ordered the Pepián, a traditional Mayan dish full of warm spices and depth, while I opted for a roasted root vegetable salad with tahini dressing, which was satisfying without being heavy.
The atmosphere is relaxed and airy (and slightly romantic), making it a great stop for lunch or an early dinner.

Granada Restaurant Runner Up
7. ECO
Best for: Groups, backpackers, a fun, low-key meal that doesn’t take itself too seriously

ECO is the place to go in Granada when you’re craving something indulgent and shareable in a casual, laid-back setting.
My husband and I ordered the house-favourite ECO Nachos, loaded with fried tortilla chips, shredded beef, melted cheddar, fried beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, and jalapeños, the perfect comfort food combo.

The vibe here is relaxed and social (if not a bit tacky), with a selection of in-house board games that make it easy to hang out over a couple of beers.
