Best Cafes & Restaurants in Cesky Krumlov

Wondering where to eat in Cesky Krumlov? This guide covers all my favourite cafes and restaurants in Cesky Krumlov for you to choose from.

Best cafes and restaurants in Cesky Krumlov with outdoor dining

Lost in Český Krumlov’s maze of candy-coloured lanes, I once made the rookie mistake of picking the first café with a cute façade, only to discover the coffee tasted like over-brewed Vltava River water.

Sound familiar? With dozens of picture-perfect patios vying for your koruny, separating Insta-bait from genuinely good bites can feel overwhelming, especially on a tight day trip from Prague.

I stayed in Cesky Krumlov for one night and two full days (and more cappuccinos than I’ll admit), I’ve built a hit-list of spots that deliver on flavour, vibe, and value – whether you crave a single-origin pour-over at Masná 130 House & Café, a riverside burger at Mustek Beer & Burger, or a traditional Czech meal at Švejk Restaurant.

Dive into this guide and you’ll know exactly where to caffeinate and refuel without wasting precious minutes (or crowns) on tourist traps.

Pre-purchase the following to make the most of your time in Cesky Krumlov:

Best Restaurants in Cesky Krumlov for Lunch & Dinner

Švejk Restaurant – Traditional Czech

Svejk quaint and traditional Czech restaurant that serves up a mean plate of roasted or stewed meat with potatoes or barley. I opted for the beef cheeks stewed with red wine, served with roasted root vegetables, pink peppercorn and potato mash. Absolute heaven!

Pair it with a midday Pilsner and you’ve got yourself a quintessential Czech experience.

Můstek Beer&Burger

House-ground patties, brioche buns, and ten taps of Czech craft suds, oh my.

After checking into my Cesky Krumlov hotel, my husband and I headed straight here. Go for the “Castle Smash” burger topped with smoky bacon and blue cheese. Nab a window seat for perfect people watching in the historic centre of Cesky Krumlov.

MY SAIGON – Asian Cuisine

When you’ve reached your dumpling limit, this family-run spot delivers soul-hugging pho, crisp pork spring rolls, and iced Vietnamese coffee as strong as the castle walls.

Portions are generous and prices are kind to your koruna.

Restaurace DEPO – Pub

Set in a converted railway depot, this is comfort-food heaven: slow-braised beef in dill sauce, duck confit with red cabbage, plus unfiltered Budvar on tap. Huge beer garden in summer, cosy brick interior in winter. Either way, come hungry.

Pizzeria Nonna Gina

Thin-crust pies fired in a tiled wood oven by an actual Nonna (well, close enough). Order the truffle-mushroom “Gina Special,” share a carafe of Montepulciano, and pretend you’ve teleported to Tuscany, minus the tourist markup.

Other Great Restaurants in Cesky Krumlov

Food & Wine Bar Klika

Modern Bohemian small plates meet an encyclopedic wine list heavy on Moravia. Don’t skip the venison tartare or the lavender panna cotta. Splurge on the four-course tasting if you’ve lingered for the sunset and overnight stay.

FAJR Café Grill

Middle-Eastern grill joint doling out juicy lamb kebabs, garlicky hummus, and smoky baba ganoush that could rival Istanbul. Quick, affordable, and veggie-friendly. The falafel wrap is a lifesaver for on-the-go explorers.

Best Cafes in Cesky Krumlov for Breakfast & Coffee

café IN VIVO

Tucked behind the main square, VIVO feels like your artsy friend’s living room: mismatched armchairs, vinyl spinning in the corner, and latte art that rivals Prague’s best.

Order the cold-brew tonic on hot days or sink into a marshmallow-topped Viennese coffee when the mist rolls in. For a leisurely breakfast, order their traditional breakfast spread.

Koloniál u zámku – Bakery & Grocery

Koloniál u zámku (Latrán 55) is half gourmet grocery, half pocket-size café, perfect for picking up warm, 10-koruna pastries, small-batch cheeses, and a takeaway flat white before hiking up to the castle gate.

Shelves are packed with South-Bohemian farm products, eco snacks, and local charcuterie, while a tiny in-house bakery sends out cinnamon-scented rolls all day.

Snag a stool in the “quiet zone” at the back for a quick espresso, or grab picnic supplies and stroll two minutes to the castle gardens for a budget-friendly feast with a million-crown view.

Drunken Coffee

Drunken Coffee sits on Dlouhá 95, a few cobbles from the river, and pairs specialty KMEN-roasted espresso with one of the prettiest castle-tower panoramas in town.

Slide onto the terrace for a flat white or switch gears with their craft-beer taps and small-batch rums in the evenings. Homemade cakes and toasted sandwiches keep you lingering well past the caffeine hit.

Masná 130 House & Café

Set inside a 16th-century merchant’s house, this micro-roaster pulls nutty espressos alongside filter flights that change weekly. Grab a seat in the sun-trap courtyard and pair your flat white with their legendary poppy-seed cheesecake.

Ideal Coffee

A charming small espresso bar housed in a historic building south of the river.

The baristas roast small batches on-site and geek out over origin notes if you ask. Take a cold brew for the road if you happen to stop in before your trip back to Prague.

Kolektiv Cafe & Wine Bar

By day it’s Chemex brews and cinnamon-sugar kouign-amann; by dusk the space flips to natural wines and charcuterie boards loaded with local cheeses.

I visited during brunch and enjoyed a simple omelette while my husband loved his yogurt bowl.

At night, ask for a glass of Moravian Grüner Veltliner and watch Latrán’s lanterns flicker on outside the arched windows.

Other Great Cafes in Cesky Krumlov:

Egon Café

Inside the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, this brick-vaulted café doubles as a gallery lounge. Sip a creamy cappuccino beneath oversized reproductions of Schiele’s sketches, then indulge in a dense Sachertorte that would make Vienna jealous.

Where to Eat & Drink in Cesky Krumlov: Conclusion

Český Krumlov may look like a museum set, but its food scene is anything but frozen in time. From that first nutty espresso at Masná 130 to a riverside “Castle Smash” burger at Mustek, or a late-night Grüner in Kolektiv’s wine nook, every corner serves up flavour with a side of fair-tale charm.

My advice? Bookmark a couple of sure-things, leave space to follow your nose down a cobbled lane, and don’t be shy about ordering dessert twice (trust me, trdelník is a separate stomach).

Na zdraví and happy munching!
