5 of My Favourite Cafes in Antigua, Guatemala for Brunch Lovers
Searching for the best cafes in Antigua, Guatemala for a tasty brunch and a cup of coffee? Here are my favourite Antigua cafes to satisfy any morning craving.

Antigua is one of those cities where brunch quietly becomes the highlight of your day, especially if you enjoy lingering over coffee, ordering one more dish “for the table,” and soaking in beautiful spaces.
During my three-week stay in Antigua Guatemala, I made it my mission to properly test the city’s sit-down café scene, returning to favourites and skipping the places that didn’t live up to the hype.
This guide is for first-time visitors who don’t want to waste a single meal. Every café listed here is somewhere I’ve personally eaten (often more than once), ordered multiple dishes, and paid attention to food quality and service.
Expect honest takes, specific dish recommendations, and notes on atmosphere, because brunch in Antigua is as much about the experience as what’s on the plate.
If you’re looking for places where you can slow down, eat well, and genuinely enjoy your morning, these Antigua cafés are where I’d send you first.

Best Cafes in Antigua, Guatemala for Brunch & Coffee
1. Libra
Libra is, without question, my favourite café-restaurant in Antigua and the one I’d prioritize if you only have time for a single brunch.
My husband and I snagged a table upstairs and were warmly welcomed by the Michelin-star chef from Texas, which immediately set the tone. The beet salad is non-negotiable, perfect for sharing, with pickled cabbage, seed cream, and tortilla crumble adding serious depth.

I ordered the pozole verde with tender chicken and a generous squeeze of fresh lime, while my husband loved the Kak’ik sandwich layered with braised turkey, mint aioli, and mango-chilli jam.

The interiors completely won me over, too, with a refined ranch aesthetic blended into a Spanish-style home. As a former interior designer, I was honestly swooning.
2. 12 Onzas
While I already rave about 12 Onzas for coffee, it’s also a fantastic brunch stop if you want a relaxed sit-down without sacrificing quality. We ordered a mint chocolate mocha and a flat white, both beautifully balanced, then settled into a slow brunch that felt effortlessly satisfying, especially after arriving at our boutique Antigua stay late the night before.

The Wild Eggs are a standout with coffee-balsamic roasted tomatoes, spinach, and feta, making this dish far more interesting than your standard egg plate. My husband loved the yogurt parfait with dried strawberry and dark chocolate, which felt indulgent without being heavy.

One detail I appreciated was how helpful the barista was in guiding us through bean options to grind and take back to our apartment. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger.
You will also find 12 Onzas on my list of top coffee shops in Antigua, as the flat white was the best I had in the city.
3. Artista de Café
Artista de Café is a great choice if you want brunch that still feels coffee-forward.
I ordered a flat white, and it was excellent – super smooth, well-executed, and finished with genuinely impressive latte art. My husband went for a dirty chai, which was rich and nicely spiced without being overpowering.

For food, I had the chilaquiles verde with shredded chicken, pickled onions, and avocado, and it absolutely hit the spot. It’s hearty, flavourful, and exactly what you want after a slow morning in Antigua.

The space strikes a nice balance between relaxed and polished, making it easy to linger without feeling rushed, especially if you’re easing into the day with a second coffee.
I loved my experience at Artista de Cafe so much, I am wondering whether I should add it to my list of best things to do and see in Antigua now, hmmm.
4. AM BKFST – Breakfast All Day
AM BKFST is ideal if you’re craving a comforting, build-your-own style brunch that actually delivers in an outdoor courtyard.

I loved the baked egg breakfast, which reminded me of a frittata baked with tomatoes, onions, and potatoes. You choose your add-ins, and I went with black beans, fried plantain, and breakfast sausage. Filling, flavorful, and very satisfying.
My husband ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, avocado, tomato, and pesto, and it disappeared fast.

This is the kind of place where portions are generous, flavours are familiar but thoughtful, and brunch feels unfussy in the best way. Perfect for fueling a full day of exploring.
5. Union Cafe
Union Cafe is a solid, dependable brunch option when you want a proper sit-down meal that feels balanced and nourishing rather than overly indulgent.

We ordered the veggie and cheese omelet, which came layered over a crispy carrot and potato hash brown and finished with a bright red sauce that tied everything together nicely. It also came with generous chunks of fresh fruit on the side, which made the plate feel complete.

My husband went for the yogurt bowl and absolutely loved it, especially the blackberry coulis, which was tangy and vibrant, and the housemade granola added great texture without being too sweet.
Best Brunch Cafes in Antigua, Guatemala: Wrap Up
If you love brunch the way I do, Antigua is the kind of place where mornings easily stretch into early afternoons. What I found during my three weeks here is that the best cafés aren’t just about the food, they’re about atmosphere, pacing, and how welcome you feel staying for that second (or third) coffee.
If you only pick one, Libra is truly special and worth planning your morning around, especially if you appreciate thoughtful cooking and beautiful interiors. 12 Onzas and Artista de Café strike the perfect balance between excellent coffee and satisfying brunch, while AM BKFST is ideal when you want something hearty and comforting.
For first-time visitors with limited days, choosing the right brunch spots makes a real difference. These are the cafés where I happily lingered, ordered more than planned, and left genuinely excited to come back, which, to me, is the true mark of a great brunch spot in Antigua.
